Swivvy School

Swivvy School seat cushion

This is Swivvy School. A cushion with a patented motion system that packs the pure movement of a full active seating solution into just 5 cm of extra seat height. That makes real, healthy movement possible on almost any school chair. Motion in design.

Try it in your classroom

Swivvy School is in development. We're looking for schools that want to take part in a pilot and tell us what could be better.

Will it fit our chairs?

The Swivvy School cushion sits loose on the seat, has a diameter of 33 cm and raises the seat height by just 5 cm. That means it fits almost any school chair.

The benefits of Swivvy School

Room to move

Four chair legs on the floor and still able to wobble, so a child who finds it hard to sit still can keep moving without disturbing anyone.

Encourages a healthy posture

By letting the pelvis move in a controlled way, Swivvy School helps a child sit upright, actively and naturally.

Use it anywhere

Use Swivvy School where, when and for whom it's needed — on a chair or on the floor, for one child or the whole class.

Yes, most of them. The cushion sits loose on the seat and needs no fixing. It has a diameter of 33 cm and raises the seat height by just 5 cm, so it fits almost any school chair.

An inflatable wobble cushion moves because the air inside it is compressed. You sink down on the side your weight is on and the rest of the cushion rises. That gives movement, but no fixed pivot, and the cushion has to stay inflated. A foam disc is firmer, but for that very reason it hardly moves with you. Swivvy School works mechanically. Inside the cushion is a patented motion system with a fixed pivot, so the seat tilts with the pelvis instead of sinking. No air, no pump, no pressure to keep up. The movement is the same on day one as after a year.

It isn't possible to lean beyond the tipping point, and the hinge has a limited tilt angle of at most 18 degrees, so the cushion tilts along without tipping over. That keeps a child safely seated.

The movement stays in the cushion. It makes no noise and the chair stays where it is.

Both. The cushions can be used specifically for children who need to move a lot, or offered to the whole group.

Swivvy School is in its pilot phase. Schools that take part get a trial set, and we reflect on the experience together while it's in use. Want to take part? Sign up with the “Join the pilot” button on this page.

The cushions are covered in vinyl with PERMABLOK. This gives them antimicrobial and antibacterial protection, and makes them antistatic and dirt-repellent. The fabric is resistant to sweat, saliva, urine and blood, and meets DIN EN 71-3, DIN EN 1021 parts 1 & 2, DIN 53 438 and DIN 75 200. Clean it with water and mild soap, rinse with clean water and dry with a clean cloth.

Swivvy School is a prototype for now. We're testing it in practice this school year.

Swivvy School is designed with safety as the starting point: the cushion has no hard edges or sharp corners and is made from common, solid materials. The upholstery is hard-wearing, easy to clean and meets several European standards for material safety and fire behaviour. The complete Swivvy School product has not yet been separately certified for safety by an independent testing institute.

Yes. On the floor, the cushion works the same way as on a chair.

Same patented motion system, different use. Swivvy Office is an active sitting stool for the office; Swivvy School is a loose cushion. The hinges inside also differ in size: Swivvy School uses a version of the original hinge with a reduced height and maximum tilt angle.
