From prototype to production
Swivvy joins Dutch Design Week 2026 as part of the collaborative showcase ‘Design meets Industry’, hosted by DDW x Designlink.
Introducing a family of active seating built around a patented motion system, Swivvy will be highlighting its featured product: the Swivvy Office, of which the first production run of one hundred units is complete.
Swivvy Office is an active sitting stool for the desk, the meeting room and the sit-stand setup. It's designed to look like furniture rather than equipment. Vegan microvelour in four colours, three base options, optional footring, height adjustable, designed in the Netherlands and manufactured in Ukraine.
Swivvy’s motion system does one thing: it lets a seat tilt continuously in every direction around a fixed pivot, and lock in the centre on demand. That gives the pelvic movement of sitting on a ball without the ball, on a seat that doesn't roll, deflate or take up floor space. It's a mechanical pivot, so the movement doesn't change over time.
The hinge was built as a component from the start. Further developments include Swivvy School, a cushion with the same mechanism that sits on existing classroom chairs. Beyond that, Shifting Shapes is open to collaborate with seating manufacturers and brands who want this mechanism in their own designs as well.
“Our novel system creates movement that feels natural and visually belongs in modern interiors,” says Rowan Zwiers, founder of Swivvy. “Rather than adding overly visible ergonomics onto furniture, we’ve integrated the motion directly into the design itself.”
The Swivvy Office is designed in the Netherlands and developed in collaboration with engineering partner Vendiboard in Ukraine. Its core hinge component is manufactured locally in Delft by MAFA Plastics. The underlying motion system was granted a Dutch patent in 2024 and is designed to be adaptable across multiple seating types.
The origins of Swivvy began with a personal challenge. Inventor Ira Mossou developed the first prototype to help her daughter find a more dynamic alternative to static sitting during long hours behind a computer. Her son, Rowan, took it on himself to develop things further from a handmade cushion into a patented movement system and ultimately the launch of Swivvy as a new Dutch seating brand.
